Support the Joy Project

The Joy Project began in 1994 after the birth of a baby girl at what was then known as New Rochelle Hospital. It had been a high-risk pregnancy, with a treatment plan that included experimental medication to prevent infection transmission and participation in cutting-edge and international medical research. As a gesture of thanks for the care taken to ensure the health of both mother and child, the baby’s family and the head physician on the case, Dr. Patricia Ann Devine, organized a toy drive for other patients and families. It was also a way to build community bonds, serve the surrounding neighborhood, and invite smiles.

As many of you know, that baby is now twenty-nine years old. Her family and that same doctor are still serving this community of patients and the hospital is now Montefiore New Rochelle. The project has grown, changed, and seen its share of challenges. COVID-19 and financial strains have affected some aspects, but the volunteers still organize their annual event which involves distributing coats and sometimes books and toys to families in need.

This year, for our 30th anniversary, our goal is to provide 400 new coats to children who receive their medical care at what is now the Montefiore Medical Group Community Health Center in New Rochelle. We would love to be able to offer a small toy and book to children as well. With your support, we look forward to more smiles and warm youngsters!
