Steven M. Safyer, MD, assumed the helm as President and CEO of Montefiore in January 2008. No newcomer to Montefiore, Dr. Safyer has built his career here. A graduate of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Dr. Safyer did his post-graduate training in internal medicine in Montefiore’s Residency Program in Social Medicine, a unique program that prepares physicians for primary care practice in urban communities. He is passionate about advancing access to care for those in need.
Dr. Safyer has led the creation and implementation of many of Montefiore’s nationally recognized patient care and quality initiatives. Since 1985, Dr. Safyer has held a succession of leadership positions at Montefiore, culminating in his being named to the hospital’s top post.
