Chemical Dependency Program

Chemical Dependency Program at Montefiore's North DivisionThe Chemical Dependency Program at the North Division of Montefiore Medical Center has a long history of providing private, compassionate and supportive care for individuals on their road to recovery. Our mission is to assist each adolescent and adult with establishing and maintaining abstinence, overcoming the effects of alcohol and substance abuse and developing a sober and satisfying life.

At Montefiore, we understand that chemical dependency is a disease - not a psychological or physical weakness. We also recognize that every individual is at a different stage of addressing and coping with it. In order to meet the unique needs of each person, our multidisciplinary team of psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors (many of whom provide bilingual services) collaborate together to customize every treatment plan.

Overview of Chemical Dependency and Specialized Programs

Our comprehensive OASAS-licensed Chemical Dependency Program offers the full range of outpatient services to individuals, family members and significant others. These encompass a thorough assessment, counseling (individual, group, and family), referrals to additional or alternative resources when appropriate, and linkages to community resources.

Group discussions focus on relapse prevention, illness in recovery, smoking cessation, wellness and domestic violence. Additionally, we offer a specialized Drinking Drivers Program and Legal Mandate for those referred for an assessment and/or treatment following an arrest while under the influence. Our specially trained counselors work closely with the D.W.I. program of the criminal court system and other legal agencies.

Specialized support groups are offered for women, seniors, and Spanish speaking individuals. We also have A.A. meetings available onsite and extended hours to accommodate participants' various work schedules.

We accept Medicaid, Medicare and private insurance and offer a sliding fee scale for those with no insurance. We also offer assistance with applying for Medicaid.

The one word that I would use to describe Montefiore Nurses is 'innovative.' They're constantly changing and constantly growing and Montefiore finds new ways to make things easier for the nurses. They embrace change and that is vital for us and the institution. [more]
