The award-winning physicians and surgeons of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Montefiore Medical Center have been providing comprehensive care and management for all orthopaedic and musculoskeletal conditions for more than 50 years. Our highly skilled staff will be helping you in a kind and caring manner right from the initial diagnosis of your problem through the treatment, all the way to it’s resolution. We will aid you in your recovery whether you have a simple sprain or a complex chronic illness involving bone, muscle tendon or ligament. Our mission is to completely relieve our patients’ pain, and return each to his or her optimal skeletal health swiftly and compassionately utilizing the latest and most up to date techniques.
At the heart of this department is an extraordinary team of distinguished board-certified orthopaedic surgeons, podiatrists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, technicians, and staff who warmly welcome patients from across the nation and the New York metropolitan area to the Center for Orthopaedic Specialties at Montefiore to experience the specialized care they need and deserve.
More than 75,000 patients annually of all ages come to us for our expertise in: hip, knee, foot and ankle, shoulder, hand, and spinal care, as well as sports medicine and oncology. You will experience the utmost in care whether you have a common problem such as carpal tunnel syndrome or require the most delicate of spinal procedures.
We understand that each patient's condition differs from the next, which is why we listen intently, discuss all treatment options, and develop a customized, optimal plan - together. In order to properly diagnose each patient's condition and execute the best treatment strategy, our department has experts in every orthopaedic specialty and subspecialty.
For example, our Director of Spinal Surgery is one of the most experienced doctors in the nation with the technique of utilizing thoracic pedicle screws in scoliosis surgery. This extremely demanding technique is yielding results that are far superior to more tradition surgical treatments.
While surgery may be the solution for some, we also encourage and employ other treatment alternatives whenever possible. It is through our team's vast experience and expertise in general orthopaedics and the following specialties that patients achieve extraordinary outcomes in an exceptional environment here at Montefiore Medical Center:
One critical element of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery's foundation and success is our steadfast dedication to research. This allows us to participate in the development of new treatments and therapies that will improve our patients' outcomes and enhance their quality of life. Current projects include studies in various facets of the immune system, scoliosis surgery, knee and shoulder repairs for sports injuries and numerous projects in fracture treatment. We are also conducting research on changes in lumbar discs with respect to aging, and analyzing the impact of obesity in young people and how it affects other orthopaedic entities and illnesses, such as Slipped Capital Femoral Epiphysis (SCFE) and Blount's disease.
The department also houses one of the largest orthopaedic surgery residency programs in the nation at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Graduates and fellows experience a unique academic experience, as their curriculum is vigorously integrated into Montefiore Medical Center to maximize their learning experiences and research opportunities. We understand that students achieve their potential through superior mentors, which is one of the many reasons why we have carefully selected a team of the finest orthopaedic physicians in the country, and are proud to be cultivating the next generation of leaders in this medical field.
