Internship Directors

Chief of Psychology

Scott Wetzler, PhD, is Vice Chairman and Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Montefiore Medical Center. He also serves as Chief Operating Officer of University Behavioral Associates, and Executive Director of the Comprehensive Services Model program, the Managed Addiction Treatment Services program, and the Supporting Healthy Marriage program.

Dr. Wetzler has published over one hundred articles and book chapters and is the author of five books. His areas of research have focused on aggression dysregulation, anxiety and mood disorders, personality disorders, and the economics of behavioral care. In addition to his scholarly activities, Dr. Wetzler has written two books for the general public on relationship topics: Living With the Passive-Aggressive Man (Simon & Schuster, 1992, translated into German, Russian, Czech, Greek, Chinese, and Japanese) and Is It You or Is It Me? How We Turn Our Feelings Inside Out and Blame Each Other (with Diane Cole, HarperCollins, 1998, translated into Norwegian). Dr. Wetzler has appeared on numerous TV and radio shows, including 20/20 and a recurring role on The View.


Director of Psychology Training

Katherine L. Muller, PsyD, ABPP , is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and a Supervising Psychologist in the Adult Outpatient Psychiatry Department at Montefiore Medical Center. She also serves as the Director of the Cognitive Behavior Therapy Program at Montefiore Medical Center. Dr. Muller is certified by the American Board of Professional Psychology in Cognitive and Behavioral Psychology.

Dr. Muller completed her pre-doctoral internship at Montefiore Medical Center and received specialized training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Motivational Interviewing and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. She then spent two years as a faculty clinician and study coordinator at the Center for the Treatment and Study of Anxiety at the University of Pennsylvania. Her post-doctoral experiences included specialized training in Prolonged Exposure for post-traumatic stress disorder and Exposure and Response Prevention for obsessive compulsive disorder.

Dr. Muller’s primary areas of expertise are in the cognitive behavioral assessment and treatment of anxiety, depression, and eating disorders. Her research interests include effectiveness and dissemination of cognitive behavioral treatments, utilizing cognitive behavioral therapy for diverse populations, and design and implementation of cognitive behavioral training programs. Dr. Muller has authored a number of journal articles and book chapters and presented on topics including manual-based psychotherapies, posttraumatic stress disorder, stress management, and obsessive compulsive disorder. She is currently the author of the Early Career Column in the APA’s Division 12 quarterly, The Clinical Psychologist.

Dr. Muller serves on the editorial board of the Einstein Journal of Biology and Medicine and is an ad hoc reviewer for the journal Cognitive & Behavioral Practice. She is a member of the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies (ABCT), the American Psychological Association (APA), and serves on the Governing Board of ABCT’s Cognitive Therapy Special Interest Group. She is a founding member of the New York City Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Association (NYC-CBT). Her biography is included in the Marquis Who’s Who of American Women. She has been featured as an expert in national media outlets including ABC Eyewitness News, The Wall Street Journal, Woman’s Day magazine, and Details magazine. She is featured in an upcoming documentary film about the treatment of trauma, The Trauma Business. Dr. Muller received the American Psychological Association's Division of Psychotherapy Early Career Psychologist Award for 2009 for her contributions to psychotherapy practice and training.


Associate Directors of Psychology Training

Alec L. Miller, PsyD, is Professor of Clinical Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and Chief of Child and Adolescent Psychology in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Montefiore Medical Center.  He also serves as Director of the Adolescent Depression and Suicide Program and Director of Mental Health Services at PS 8 School-Based Health Program.

Dr. Miller is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association (Divisions 12 and 53), Past-President of Division 12's Section on Clinical Emergencies and Crises, 2007 APA Division 12 Program Chair, past Chair of the International Society for the Improvement and Training of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (ISITDBT), and recipient of the Service Award from ISITDBT.  He is an invited member of the International Academy for Suicide Research, a consultant on the FDA's Suicide Classification Project, and past Associate Editor of Cognitive and Behavioral Practice.

Dr. Miller has become internationally known in the areas of adolescent suicidology, non-suicidal self-injury, borderline personality disorder, and DBT.  Since 1995, Dr. Miller has directed a clinical-research team adapting DBT for outpatient suicidal multi-problem adolescents, as well as contributing to the adaptation of DBT for other populations and settings, and he has received federal, state, and private funding for his research.  He has authored numerous articles, book chapters and two books, including one published by Guilford Press titled, Dialectical Behavior Therapy with Suicidal Adolescents (2007) and another published by Hogrefe and Huber, titled, Childhood Maltreatment (2006). Upon invitation by the American Psychological Association, Dr. Miller developed a psychotherapy training video titled, DBT for Multi-Problem Adolescents (2007).

Dr. Miller became a DBT trainer in 1997 and has conducted over 200 lectures and workshops around the world. He is currently the lead trainer and supervisor for the first randomized trial of adolescent DBT which is being conducted in Oslo, Norway. As a clinician, Dr. Miller maintains a private practice in White Plains, NY, and is highly sought after as a practitioner of CBT and DBT with adolescents and adults.  His clinical expertise has been highlighted by various popular media outlets such as CNN, CBS TV, Teen People Magazine, Redbook, and the NY Daily News.


Simon A. Rego, PsyD, ABPP, ACT, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and a Supervising Psychologist in the Adult Outpatient Psychiatry Department at Montefiore Medical Center. He is also Director of Quality Management and Development at University Behavioral Associates, a consultant to both the Institutional Review Board of the Biomedical Research Alliance of New York and the Sleep-Wake Disorders Center at Montefiore Medical Center, and an Adjunct Clinical Supervisor at both the Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology of Yeshiva University and the Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology of Rutgers University.

Dr. Rego completed his first two postdoctoral years at the Center for the Treatment and Study of Anxiety at the University of Pennsylvania. His clinical expertise is in the cognitive-behavioral assessment and treatment of anxiety, mood, sleep, and body focused repetitive disorders. He is Board Certified in Cognitive Behavioral Psychology by the American Board of Professional Psychology and is a Fellow of the Academy of Cognitive Therapy. He is listed in the Who's Who in Medical Sciences Education and the Who's Who in America and was the recipient of the 2008 Virginia Staudt Sexton Award for Distinguished Early Career Psychologists by the New York State Psychological Association.

Dr. Rego has authored numerous journal articles and book chapters on topics such as panic disorder, posttraumatic stress disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, hoarding, insomnia, depression, trichotillomania, stress management, and the use of evidence-based psychotherapies in training and practice. He has also been featured as an expert in many national media outlets including: CNN's American Morning, ABC's Good Morning America NOW, CBS's Eye on New York, ABC's Eyewitness News, AM New York, Newsday, Financial Times of London, MSNBC.com, WebMD.com, Weightwatchers.com, and HealthDay.com. He is section editor for The Clinical Psychologist, an ad hoc reviewer for several journals, including the American Journal of Psychotherapy, Cognitive & Behavioral Practice, Current Psychiatry, and the Journal of Trauma Practice, and holds leadership positions in the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies and the Anxiety Disorders Association of America.
