Physicians and Faculty
Roman Perez-Soler, MD, is chairman of the Department of Oncology and chief of the Division of Medical Oncology at Montefiore. He is a professor of Medicine and Molecular Pharmacology at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
A native of Spain, Dr. Perez-Soler received his medical degree from Universidad Autonoma in Barcelona, where he also completed a residency in Internal Medicine. He completed his fellowship in Medical Oncology at the University of Texas, M.D. Anderson Hospital Cancer Center.
Dr. Perez-Soler has received numerous awards for his accomplishments, particularly in lung cancer research, and is considered an international cancer expert in experimental cancer therapy.
Mark H. Einstein, MD, assistant professor, Division of Gynecologic Oncology, Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Women’s Health, is involved in all aspects of cancer care and the treatment of women with gynecologic malignancies at Montefiore. As a gynecologic
oncologist, he performs the surgical procedure and, if necessary, manages the patient’s chemotherapy and coordinates the appropriate adjuvant treatments including radiation therapy. Dr. Einstein also serves as a consultant for patients that require advanced gynecologic care. In addition to his surgical expertise, he is a clinical investigator
for numerous investigational agents targeting all types of gynecologic cancers including cancers of the cervix, uterus, ovaries, vulva and vagina. For more information on Dr. Einstein, click here.
I. David Goldman, MD is the Director of the Einstein Cancer Center. The Einstein Cancer Center brings together and coordinates research activities of all laboratory and clinical researchers studying cancer and treating patients with this disease. Montefiore Medical Center is a major site for the clinical programs. Programs focus on very basic issues in cancer research, such as mechanisms by which tumor cells metastasize, mechanisms by which tumor cells develop resistance to anticancer drugs and the role of the immune system in cancer. Multidisciplinary teams study and treat intestinal cancers, breast cancer, prostate cancer, head and neck cancers, gynecologic cancers (cervix, ovary, and endometrial), lung and esophageal cancers. Shalom Kalnicki, MD, chairman of Radiation Oncology at Montefiore Medical Center and professor at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, specializes in the radiation treatment of cancer. He brings decades of experience in radiotactic surgery, biological treatment planning and target motion identification and management to the Montefiore-Einstein Cancer Center team. Focusing on new technologies and translational research, Dr. Kalnicki’s goal is to discover new advantages over traditional radiation therapy in order to improve the quality of patient life while more precisely targeting and treating tumors. He is available for clinical consultation, treatment planning and multidisciplinary consultation. For more information on Dr. Kalnicki, click here.
Glenn Kroog, MD, assistant professor of Medicine and Molecular Pharmacology at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine (AECOM), studies a special class of receptors on the surface of cells called G-protein coupled receptors at AECOM. G-protein coupled receptors are very important to all cells, because these receptors are involved in every aspect of the communication of cells with their environment, and comprise about 2% of all human genes. This research focuses specifically on one family of G-protein coupled receptors, the bombesin receptors, which may stimulate the growth of cancers of the breast, lung, and prostate. An antibody that blocks bombesin-like growth factor binding to their receptors has shown some therapeutic potential when administered to patients with lung cancer. Hence, bombesin receptors are potential targets for cancer chemotherapy. For more information on Dr. Kroog, click here.
Adam Levy, MD, director of Pediatric Neuro-Oncology at Montefiore Medical Center and assistant professor at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, specializes in the evaluation and management of central nervous system tumors in children and adolescents. As a pediatric oncologist with a focused interest in brain tumors, he brings to The Children’s Hospital at Montefiore (CHAM) detailed experience in chemotherapy management of brain tumors with the goal of avoiding or delaying radiation therapy to the developing brain.
