Lung Scan
Lung Oxygen Supply
This study shows how well air is distributed inside the lungs. No preparation is needed.
A technologist may work with you on learning to breathe freely.
You will be placed in front of a gamma camera. You will wear a mask so you can inhale a colorless, tasteless isotope.
Pictures will be taken of the gamma rays given off by the isotopes you inhale. The procedure takes only a few minutes.
Lung Blood Supply
The scan shows blood flow patterns within the lungs.
You will receive an injection containing an isotope.
You may be asked to change positions while the gamma camera takes pictures. The procedure takes about a 1/2 hour.
