Dr. Ozuah’s research has focused on environmental exposures and medical education, and has been funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Health Resources and Services Administration of the Department of Health and Human Services, and many private foundations.



Biography:
Dr. Ozuah’s background includes a medical degree from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria, and a rotating internship at the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital. He later earned a master’s degree in Education from the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, and a PhD in Educational Leadership and Administration from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He obtained his pediatric internship and residency at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Montefiore Medical Center, and his post-doctoral research fellowship in Medical Education at the University of Southern California, School of Medicine, Los Angeles.

Dr. Ozuah joined the faculty of the Department of Pediatrics at Montefiore and Albert Einstein in 1992 and served as director of the Residency Training Program in Social Pediatrics from 1999 to 2005. He was appointed vice chairman for Clinical and Educational Affairs of the Department of Pediatrics in 2002, served as interim university chairman of Pediatrics beginning in 2005 and was appointed Chairman of the Department in 2007.

Dr. Ozuah is a recipient of every prestigious teaching award offered by Albert Einstein and its university Department of Pediatrics, including the William Obrinsky Award for Excellence in Student Teaching, the Lewis M. Fraad Award for Excellence in Resident Teaching, the Obrinsky Award, the Harry Gordon Award for Outstanding Clinical Teaching and the Samuel Rosen Award for Outstanding Teaching in the Clinical Curriculum. He was inducted into the Leo M. Davidoff Society for outstanding achievement in teaching and, as a faculty member, into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. On a national level, the Ambulatory Pediatric Association recognized him in 2004 with its Outstanding Teaching Award and the Ray E. Helfer Award for Innovation in Pediatric Education. He was also the recipient of the APA’s Helfer Award in 2003.

Dr. Ozuah’s bibliography includes more than 110 publications in peer-reviewed journals and books, 200 published abstracts and more than 250 presentations at national and international scientific meetings. He serves on the Editorial Board of the Journal Ambulatory Pediatrics and is a reviewer for a variety of pediatric and environmental health journals. He has been appointed to NIH Special Emphasis Panels on Education and is a member of NIH Study Sections on Clinical Research Training.
