Information For Patients

This page provides useful general information for patients at the Moses Division, the Weiler Division, and the North Division Hospitals.

Room Options

Patient units are organized by medical specialties, such as surgeryoncologycardiology and so on. All hospital rooms are equipped for your medical care, comfort and safety. There are two types of rooms available to patients:

  • semi-private (covered by insurance)
  • private (separate charge not covered by insurance)

Please direct requests for private rooms to the admitting office.

Guidelines on Bringing Personal Belongings

We want your stay to be comfortable, and encourage you to bring items with you that will increase your comfort. However, to safeguard your personal belongings and to meet hospital rules, we ask you to keep the items you bring to a minimum. Here are guidelines:

  • Only battery-powered items like CD players are allowed. Electrical appliances such as shavers, hairdryers, radios and televisions are prohibited because they may interfere with medical equipment.
  • Personal items such as eyeglasses, hearing aids, dentures and assistive devices like canes should be marked with your name (and room number once you are admitted) and, when not being used, stored in labeled cases or containers as appropriate.
  • You will not need additional clothing and we urge you not to bring it. We also recommend having family members or friends take home the street clothes you wear to the hospital and bring clothes for you when you are ready to be discharged. This policy is meant to safeguard your belongs.
  • We urge you not to bring valuables such as jewelry or cash with you. If needed, there is a hospital safe where valuable can be stored. Please ask your nurse about it.

Telephone Service

  • A telephone is available at your bedside. Incoming calls are free. A daily fee is charged for local calls you make. To activate this service, dial ext. 8400 at Moses; ext. 2017 at Weiler; ext. 9851 at North.
  • Long distance calls are not covered in the phone plan. You can use a calling card for making long-distance calls or place them as collect calls.
  • Cell phones cannot be used on patient floors because they interfere with medical equipment.

Meals

Montefiore is sensitive to cultural dietary guidelines and restrictions. Meals served at the Weiler Division are prepared under rabbinical supervision in accordance with Jewish dietary laws (KASHRUTH). For special needs or concerns about meals, contact the Nutrition Department at each hospital between 6:00 A.M. and 6:00 P.M. daily.
