Expert 24/7 Care

Montefiore’s Emergency Rooms are always open and expertly staffed—around the clock, every day of the year. Every emergency patient receives expert care, regardless of the individual’s social condition or ability to pay. Family members accompanying a patient are welcome at all times.

Board-Certified Staff

The Department of Emergency Medicine staffs each ER site and is responsible for delivering high quality, compassionate care. The Emergency Care team at each hospital is made up of experienced board-certified emergency specialists, including skilled critical care registered nurses and doctors. Every ER team is backed up by the full resources and facilities of Montefiore Medical Center.

Range of Services

The ERs provide care for all aspects of acute illness and injury and are equipped to handle a full range of conditions, including dental and psychiatric emergencies. Social service personnel address the needs of patients who require support beyond the immediate emergency assistance.

Chest Pain Specialists

The Department of Emergency Medicine at Montefiore specializes in rapid diagnosis of chest pain. Experts in the Chest Pain Evaluation Unit examine all patients complaining of chest pain to identify those with life-threatening cardiac conditions. The excellence of the cardiac units ensures that life-saving treatment is immediately available when needed.

FasTrack Evaluation

Each patient who enters the ER receives an initial evaluation. Those with less serious conditions are placed on Montefiore’s ER FasTrack. This innovative program for emergency care addresses the traditional problem of long waits for ER patients whose conditions are not life threatening. FasTrack is designed to ensure that those with less acute problems are treated and released with a minimum of inconvenience for patient and family members.
